Richard “Dick” Colbart started Colbart’s Bicycle Shop
in 1987 in Edon, Ohio. The bike shop was
located in a barn in his back yard. It
was his dream to have a bike shop and
build the business for something to do
when he retired. In 1994, Dick died of a
heart attack and his son John inherited
John continued working the bike business in the barn through
the rest of 1994. John and his wife Valda decided that to continue the
business it should be moved closer to
home so their children Gary and Amy
could be actively involved in the family
business. In the fall of 1994, a
building was constructed on their
property at 09464 State Route 49, Edon.
The family spent the winter finishing
the inside of the bike shop and opened
at their new location in the spring of
1995. In 2002, the bike shop was
expanded to 1300 square feet with room
for future growth.
The bike shop is a full service and repair
shop with bike
accessories available. In 1996 new bikes
were added as a way of filling a need
for their customers. Some of the
different bike names from the past were
– Bike USA, Titan, Redline, Diamondback.
Our current bike lines now include:
Fuji, Worksman, Trailmate, Torker, and
Gary had spent many hours working with his Grandpa Dick, so
in the beginning, Gary’s hands-on
experience was a big help to his Dad.
John learned several tips from his son
on bike repair. John recently retired
from Titan Tire (General Tire) after 37
years of being in the maintenance
department and will follow his father’s
dream of working the bicycle shop to
keep him busy now that he has retired.
Colbart’s Bicycle Shop truly is a family-owned business. Over
the years all the family has worked in the
bike shop, and now the grandchildren are
learning the business.
At Colbart's Bicycle Shop we appreciate and take care of our
customers because they are our family,
